Plankton and trees, the smallest and largest suppliers of the world’s oxygen, are the subject of Teresa Posyniak’s work Beautiful Losers: My Carbon Sink Muses. Her paintings and sculptures are mixed media, made from a wide variety of materials including paint, paper, concrete, wax, felt, wood, lace, and industrial steel connectors.

Posyniak is an artist exploring climate change issues in Calgary, Alberta, in Canada, where the oil industry reigns supreme. She is surrounded by friends, family, and colleagues who work in the oil industry, and approaches the topic of climate change in her work “with some trepidation.” Reactions to her work “vary wildly from fascination, curiosity, appreciation for the aesthetics of the works but doubt about my stance on climate change, defensiveness and occasionally open hostility towards the perceived ‘attack’ on oil.”
