An amazing dedicated team of artists and activists from Seattle are hitting the road to head to the Athabasca tar sands in Canada, to raise awareness about our connection to the tar sands here in the Pacific Northwest. Phil Walker, an independent filmmaker will be documenting their trip.

Along the way, they will be visiting the communities that will be impacted by the proposed Kinder Morgan Trans Mountain Pipeline, from the tar sands in northern Canada to Anacortes, WA, which will increase tar sands oil coming to the west coast by 3x, and will carry 22% more oil than the Keystone pipeline.

The tar sands is the fastest growing source of emissions in Canada. Fully exploiting the oil sands could release more CO2 than the USA and China combined have released in the history of industrial civilization.

You can support the Road to Athabasca team by donating to their Kickstarter campaign. They are leaving Seattle August 15 and expect to arrive at the tar sands September 8.
