Italian sculptor Lorenzo Quinn, who we’ve featured on this blog before (“The Force of Nature“) is back with a monumental sculpture in Venice, Italy, titled “Support”. A giant pair of hands reaches out of the canal to support the walls of the Ca’ Sagredo Hotel, attempting to protect it from subsidence and sea level rise—the ever encroaching water that is sending Venice under the water at a rate of several millimeters per year. Already 120mm lower in the 20th century, Venice stands to lose another 80mm in the next 20 years.

This is a striking and compelling work that will hopefully bring attention to the impacts of sea level rise and raise awareness about climate change.
